Beers 101 - 104 of 104:

Wymehcko, Beer (Bulgaria)
This brewery is owned by Carlsberg as far as I can tell, though information is scant. It is a pilsener-style beer, that pours a pale yellow/gold, with a fairly thin white head. Quite a malty, creamy nose, with a touch of creamed corn and a little hint of marmalade. In the mouth this is quite full-bodied, with some decent lemony fruit. It is quite crisp, with a little nip of bitter, leafy hops keeping the finish quite dry. It lacks a little fire in its belly, and not one to get too excited about, but it's unusual and not a bad beer. 4.6% ABV, 33cl, £1.50, Pierhead.
Zaragozana, Ambar (Spain)
It's unclear to me whether or not this is the same beer as the "Spanish Premium Beer" from Zaragozana reviewed here, and although tasted a couple of years apart, they do strike me as very similar. The colour is a medium yellow gold, with a thin white head. On the nose this is fairly malty and a touch grassy, with a slight orangey character to the fruit. On the palate it is quite full-bodied and smooth, with an immediate sweetness before more of that orange and lemony fruit, and a touch of caramel and biscuit. There's a richness here, though the beer is clean and fresh, even though it is somewhat lacking in the bite and definition that would have lifted it up to three stars. 5.2% ABV, 33cl, £1.09, Beersofeurope, Pierhead.
Zaragozana, Spanish Premium Beer (Spain)
From an independent brewer in Zaragosa, this is a lager beer that pours a medium gold with a moderate white head. The aroma has a touch of sweetcorn and new-mown hay, with a gentle, rounded malty character. On the palate it is quite full-bodied and very smooth, with a sweetness to it that is very easy drinking, plenty of creamy, mouth-filling flavour, but little by way of bite or complexity. It is nice, strongish lager without hitting any heights. 5.2% ABV, 33cl, £1.10 (estimate), Pierhead.
Zhu Jiang, Zhu Jiang Beer (China)
Zhu Jiang, meaning "Pearl River" and pronounced "Joo Jung", is brewed in China from rice and barley, using local spring water, imported Czech hops and German yeast. It has a yellowy-gold colour and a modest white head, and the nose has a touch of sweetcorn and there's a definite impression of boiled rice too. There's a touch of citrus perhaps, but this is a rather dull beer aromatically. On the palate there is sweetness and a medium body, making this easy enough to drink, but certainly lacking bitterness and any really distinctive character, with a slightly metallic finish. 5.3% ABV, 33cl, £1.09, Beersofeurope, Pierhead.
