Cains Organic Wheat Beer

by Willard Clarke, 09/07
Cains, the fast-growing Liverpool brewery, has launched an organic wheat beer as the latest member of its portfolio. The brewery was saved from closure by the energetic Dusanj brothers, Ajmail and Sudarghara, who have developed such beers as 2008 to mark Liverpool's year as the City of Culture in 2008, and a lager that is matured for three months.

The brothers recently surprised the beer world by buying the Honeycombe Leisure pubs group, which overnight grew the Cain's pub estate from a handful to more than 100.

Cains, Organic Wheat Beer (England)
This new beer from Cains (as of autumn 2007) is brewed with organic barley and wheat malts and is hopped with First Gold and Saaz. The beer carries the Soil Association certificate as a guarantee that it is made from genuine organic materials. It has a penny-bright copper colour and an aroma of banana fruit, vanilla, bubblegum and spicy hops. The palate is tart and tangy, with sharp fruit, spicy hops and creamy malt. The finish is deep and complex, with creamy malt, ripe fruit and bitter hop resins. It is a very English version of a wheat beer, with far more hop character and bitterness that a German one. It is wonderfully refreshing and is available in all Cain's pubs and will be on sale soon in selected supermarkets. 4.0% ABV, 50cl, 1.79, brewery pubs.
