Fuller's new Brewer's Reserve by Willard Clarke, 08/11 Fuller's Brewery has launched its third oak-aged ale - Brewer's Reserve No 3 - which has been aged for 800 days in malt whisky casks obtained from the Auchentoshan distillery, one of the last Lowlands distilleries and close to Glagsow. The distillery is based on the north bank of the Clyde, on the road to Dumbarton, and is on the site of a former monastery. It's the last of the Lowlands distilleries to triple distil - most whisky maker double distil. The final whisky from "Auchie" is not stronger than other malt whiskies but the method of distillation has a major impact on flavour, which has a pronounced malty and citrus fruit character. The casks are obtained from the American bourbon industry but one of the whiskies, Three Wood, is matured in bourbon casks for 10 years, transferred to Oloroso sherry casks for one year before being transferred again for a year to more sherry casks obtained from Pedro Ximenez. Fullers, Brewer's Reserve No 3 (England) The beer matured in Auchie casks is a blend of Fuller�s Golden Pride and Extra Special Bitter. The 9% beer that emerges from the casks has a pale bronze colour, with rich honey, vanilla, whisky, smoke, oak, fresh tobacco and white pepper on the nose. There�s biscuit grain, honey, whisky, vanilla, oak and spicy hops in the mouth, with ginger notes developing. The finish has sweet malt, with whisky notes balanced by honey, oak, ginger, bitter hops and vanilla.
