Bateman's GHA by Willard Clarke, 07/09 Bateman�s, the family-owned brewer in Wainfleet, Lincolnshire, has plugged a gap in its portfolio with a new golden ale, GHA. The 4.2 per cent beer sits between the brewery�s long-running bitters, XB (3.7%) and XXXXB (4.8%). It�s brewed with East Anglian Maris Otter malting barley and Challenger and Goldings hops. The colour rating is 15, units of bitterness 32. The name GHA is short for the brewery�s famous slogan, Good Honest Ales. It has a distinctive clover-shaped pump clip and the aim of the new beer, says managing director Stuart Bateman, is to appeal to both regular Bateman�s drinkers and to younger and experimental drinkers who want to try a lighter-coloured beer.    The beer has juicy malt and spicy hops on the aroma with a hint of butterscotch. There�s sweet malt in the mouth balanced by spicy and bitter hops and tart fruit. The finish is bittersweet but becomes dry with rich malt, fruit and hop notes. The beer is now on sales in the Bateman�s pub estate and will be available through national distributors and wholesalers.
